How the 3D mockup feeds installation
- Property model built from site measurements
We use site measurements, photographs, and plant inventory from the assessment to build a property model. The model doesn't require architectural software — it's built at the level of detail needed to visualize lighting coverage accurately, not to produce construction documents.
- Fixture placement and beam simulation
Proposed fixtures are placed in the model at their planned positions. Each fixture's beam angle, output, and color temperature is applied so the render reflects actual photometric performance rather than an artist's impression.
- Client review and revision before install
You review the rendered views and request changes — move a fixture, add coverage to a dark zone, reduce brightness in an area that looks over-lit. Changes are made in the model and re-rendered before the final installation spec is locked. This is far cheaper than moving buried cable after installation.
3D mockups are particularly valuable for Central Florida properties with complex plant layouts. A scaled diagram shows fixture positions but doesn't communicate how a mature queen palm canopy will interact with an uplight beam at 15 feet. The rendered view makes these relationships visible before installation. For properties with significant hardscape — travertine pool decks, limestone paths, coquina retaining walls — the mockup also shows how different Kelvin temperatures read on the actual surface materials before you commit to a fixture spec.
Common questions
How accurate is the 3D mockup compared to the finished installation?
Photometric renders are accurate for beam coverage and brightness hierarchy but are not pixel-perfect representations of the installed result. Plant texture, surface micro-variation, and ambient light from neighboring sources all affect the real-world appearance in ways a render can't perfectly replicate. The mockup is most valuable for confirming visual hierarchy and catching coverage problems — not as a photorealistic preview. We're transparent about this distinction.
Is a 3D mockup necessary for every project?
No. For smaller or straightforward projects — a front-yard tree uplight and pathway lighting, for example — a scaled layout plan and fixture spec are sufficient. 3D mockups are most valuable for larger properties, complex plant layouts, premium installations where fixture changes after install would be costly, and projects where the homeowner wants to visualize the result before committing to the full budget.
How long does the 3D mockup process take?
After the site assessment, model build and initial render typically takes 5–7 business days. Revision rounds add 2–3 days each. Most projects complete the mockup-to-final-spec process within two to three weeks — well worth the timeline given that it eliminates the most expensive installation corrections.
