How It Works

  1. Dining use interview — how many guests, how often you entertain, whether children are frequent diners, and how the space connects to the indoor kitchen all affect the design.
  2. Layer planning — overhead ambient sets the base level. Perimeter accent softens the edges. Supplemental table-level lighting (string overhead, post lighting) fills in the middle layer.
  3. Dusk aiming and brightness calibration — we set dimmer levels for different scenarios and run through the scene presets with you before finishing.

How bright should overhead dining lighting be?
Bright enough to see food and faces clearly, not so bright that you are squinting or the space feels like a cafeteria. We typically target 10–20 foot-candles at table height as a starting point and adjust based on the space and your preferences during the night aiming session.
